What do you think is the best way to respond to religious people that say God put animals on Earth for us to eat?

Hi!
Well, first and foremost, “Thou shalt not kill”. It doesn’t say anywhere that this doesn’t include animals or birds. It’s quite clear-killing is a sin. Humans have conveniently decided to forget that, and changed it to mean “thou shalt not kill only human beings”.
Then,
“I give you all plants that bear seed everywhere on Earth, and every tree bearing fruit which yields seed: they shall be yours for food. All green plants I give for food to the wild animals, to all the birds of heaven, and to all reptiles on Earth, every living creature, it shall be theirs for food.” (Genesis 1:29-31)
The God of the Old Testament makes it quite clear that he is providing only plants for food, not other animals.
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31)
So the Garden of Eden, God’s ‘perfect world’ was vegan, and was what he deemed to be ‘good’.
Lets not forget all the Bible tells us about compassion.
“Therefore, as God’s choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
A vegan diet is a ‘compassionate’ diet, or atleast it attempts to cause less suffering than a diet with meat and dairy.
I’m not a Christian, or a believer in god at all, but there are other vegan Christians who have written articles and blog posts about it.
